Vines and the land: a complex and varied context. 1,000 hectares of vines, 480 subscribing Members and 60 different vine-growing types.

Gently-undulating hills no higher than 600m asl, bathed in sunlight, characterised by an age-old lack of water and soils markedly conditioned by the presence of minerals (sulphur, potassium and calcium) render this land a surprising and natural chemical laboratory in the service of quality wine-making.

With a productive base of more than 1,000 hectares under vines, strewn over various parts of Agrigento and with more than 60 zones of varied production, Viticultori Associati Canicattì has imposed internal productive controls. These have established and regulate the range of cultivation activities in the vineyards so as to specify, starting from the individual plant, the qualitative standard of grape which will be selected in the production of wine. The production processes are thus standardised into the best techniques of modern wine-making to ensure quality and a wholesome nature of the grape.

In the pre-harvest phase, each single vine is constantly monitored so as to identify the optimal moment for picking the grapes. With a low yield per hectare and a wide and diversified ampelographical base, Viticultori Associati Canicattì is committed to producing regional wines, capable of expressing the soul of this ancient yet modern part of Sicily. The varieties planted on these unique lands express the very best of regional wines: Catarratto, Inzolia, Grillo, Nero d’Avola, Nerello Mascalese and Nerello Cappuccio, as well as international varieties: Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Merlot.
